5The twisted sensibilities of author Jon Scieszka are in fine form once again throughout Squids Will Be Squids: Fresh Morals, Beastly Fables. This modern day adaptation of Aesops Fables tickles the brain with weirdly pitched morality tales. It's hard to convey what the dialogue between a duckbilled platypus and a Beefsnakstick might sound like, but underneath the wackiness is a message about what makes someone, or something, special. Ditto the tale about the competition between a piece of toast and a bowl of Fruit Loops, which shows the pitfalls of vanity.
